Halloween wines: October brings out one of the best in spooky graphics
3 min read
Autumn is one of the best time of the yr. I really like all the pieces about it—the autumn decorations, the cooler temperatures, leaves altering colours, grape harvests and Halloween, a magical time with all its mysteries, histories, spooky films, TV cartoons and events.
Whether or not the events you get invited to (or throw) require a dressing up or not, there’s all the time a just-right bottle of wine to convey. Many manufacturers and labels are excellent for Halloween events—some as a result of they’re great-tasting wines, others as a result of the bottles look spooky and funky. I’m going to deal with those which have cool-looking, spooky labels.
All of those will be discovered domestically, particularly at Vino 100, positioned at 1131 Steamboat Parkway in Reno. Regardless that I’m specializing in the labels, the wines style nice too.
Intrinsic crimson mix, Intrinsic Wine Co.
Intrinsic is a vineyard within the Columbia Valley of Washington state. The cool labels on the Intrinsic wines are impressed by road artwork.
Don’t get all nervous as a result of it’s a Bordeaux mix; a Bordeaux mix is solely a wine constituted of a mix of grapes that had been traditionally grown within the Bordeaux area of France. A few of these embody cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. Purchase it for the label—and purchase it once more for the wine.
Intrinsic cabernet sauvignon, Intrinsic Wine Co.
Intrinsic cabernet sauvignon is an ideal instance of Washington cabernet. Anticipate massive fruit flavors like blackberries, black cherries and ripe plums, together with oak, tobacco and chocolate. Spooky label and scary good wine.
River of Skulls, Twisted Oak Vineyard
Twisted Oak Vineyard’s River of Skulls wine couldn’t have a greater label for Halloween. It’s a blood-red cranium on an inky black bottle. This wine is one hundred pc mourvèdre, with grapes grown by the Dalton Winery in Angels Camp, Calif., alongside the Rio de las Calaveras, or, in English, the River of Skulls. This river was named in 1806 when Lt. Gabriel Moraga found its banks suffering from skulls. Cue the creepy music if you pour. Blackberries, darkish cherries and spice dominate this wine. Mourvèdre is certainly one of my favourite varieties, and I plan to have certainly one of these readily available for Halloween.
Wild Factor chardonnay, Carol Shelton Wines
Not all wines with labels excellent for Halloween have wine the colour of blood in them. Carol Shelton Wines’ Wild Factor chardonnay is completely creepy. That is an estate-produced wine from Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma, Calif. This can be a nice California chardonnay with just a few spooky twists to it, like being complete cluster-pressed. This chardonnay falls between the large, fats, buttery wines and a high-acid, chrome steel fermented one. The truth that it’s 10 % roussanne and eight % viognier ought to get you shifting your bones to go decide some up.
Previous Ghost, Klinker Brick Vineyard
Halloween wouldn’t be a spooky with no ghost. I want cute ghosts like Casper or Charlie Brown (when he was trick-or-treating and received a rock), and Klinker Brick Vineyard makes a cute ghost of a wine referred to as Previous Ghost. Previous Ghost represents one of the best zinfandel the vineyard makes. Produced from grapes grown in Lodi, this wine has black pepper, herbs and ripe cherries, with chocolate and tannin bitter notes. It’s a boo-tiful wine that won’t scare you in any respect.
Halloween is a superb time to let your eyes decide your wine for you. Let the labels communicate to your tell-tale coronary heart, and let the spirit transfer you to a brand new and thrilling wine you will have by no means tried. Completely satisfied Halloween!
